If you download this case, I only ask that you share your feedback in the comments section and consider donating what you think is fair to my PayPal account to help cover the months of time spent designing the case - https://www.paypal.me/kirkdis. I hope this case will make the NanoPi M4 a more famous NAS solution. (By the way, I'm not paid or sponsored by them.) Thanks for your support! Find a shopping list for all parts at www.scheisser.net. http://scheisser.net/?p=7670 -------------------------DESCRIPTION-------------------------------------- This project aims to create a case for a Nanopi M4 based NAS with Sata-hat and 3 or 4 2.5" drives in Raid5, using the most compact design possible while keeping it printable and stable. So far, the NAS is working flawlessly and consumes less than 7W in idle mode and up to 20W at full load. The missing piece is a case that can securely hold all components without any safety risks. I was looking for a suitable case available globally, but after two months of searching, I decided to design one myself due to lack of time. Due to the complexity of this project, it takes longer than expected, and I wanted to share some progress with you. The result is not finished yet, but I have a clear plan on how it will look like in the end. 2020-05-10 UPDATE: I updated the file naming. To get all parts printed, you need to print the two files for either 4 or 3 bay versions plus the two all_version files. The top case and fanmount fit both cases. 2019-11-23 UPDATE: So many downloads but not much feedback yet... Did it work out for you guys? Where are the build posts? I'm interested in some color combinations too! Still asking for your feedback and suggestions. 2019-07-11 UPDATE: I have an idea now on how it will finally look like. All issues seem to be solved, so I'm printing a first baseplate prototype with 15mm high walls for the harddrives. Attached new screenshots. Nothing is final yet, but the overall shape is set. The ground plate measures are around 170x150mm. Please provide feedback if you print it out as I don't have time to get it printed for a proof... Thanks in advance! 2019-10-07 UPDATE: New photos posted of the inside fan mount designed and printed yesterday - all fits nice... In addition, I redesigned the drive mounts again. The old fanmount STL is gone now. I'm getting more pressure to finish this case as I have a trip planned to Peru and Ecuador in November. What else do you need besides this case? - Nanopi M4 - Sata hat - External power supply - 50x50x15mm fan (mine is a 12V 0.08W silent spinner) - SATA cables - Molex splitting wire for power supply with SATA connectors - 3 2.5" harddrives (Seagate ST4000LM024-2AN1) - OpenMediaVault Nanopi image - SD card 2019-10-23 UPDATE: Updated design with a 4-bay HDD enclosure and HDD mounts as requested by the community several times. Now you have the choice to build a 3-bay or 4-bay case and use all SATA ports of the SATA hat. Attention: All energy measures taken before are only related to my 3-bay version. The consumption will increase with an additional drive... Please provide feedback if you print it out as I don't have time for getting it printed for a proof... THANKS a lot!
