Nanite Pauldron

With all the impractical armor plating cluttering up fantasy realms, I decided to take it to the next level with a self-contained nanite field, essentially "grey goo" enclosed within a permeable forcefield. Why would someone do this? Perhaps not for any particular reason, but as you can see, Freddy (previous owner of the skull) can attest to its remarkable effectiveness.
