Nanaimo Art Gallery: Mini-Skate Park
sketchfab
The Nanaimo Art Gallery recently launched an exhibition called Border X. The show featured works by Skaters and indigenous artists who express their connection to the land and their cultural identity through skateboarding and snowboarding. One piece even showcased a video projection of a photoscanned model of an indigenous blanket, which was truly impressive. The work this model is based on is a mini-ramp built inside a small area outside the main gallery space. As long as attendees book the space in advance, participants are free to use the ramp however they like, with skateboarding equipment provided by the gallery inspired by works in the show titled Colonialism Skateboards. Despite using 372 images, the scan didn't turn out as well as expected, particularly in the middle. However, I'm still pleased that I can contribute to preserving this space, even if it's just in a small way.
