Nameplate for a Folger RepRap 2020 Prusa i3
thingiverse
A nameplate designed for mounting on the front section of 2020 aluminum extrusion from a Folger Technologies RepRap 2020 Prusa i3. Two parts are connected by thick CA glue, such as Superglue. Once assembled, the nameplate can be slid onto one end of the 2020 extrusion. For guidance on printing text in different colors than the plate, see the misc notes section. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Folger RepRap 2020 Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm layers Infill: 35% Notes: You can print text in a different color from the plate by inserting filament change commands manually into the GCODE file after slicing and before sending it to the printer. Later versions of Marlin firmware support the M600 command for filament change. Versions of Marlin firmware provided by Folger have the M600 command disabled by default, but can be easily enabled by removing the comment from the start of the "#define FILAMENTCHANGEENABLE" line in the Configuration_adv.h file before uploading the firmware to the printer. The "M600" filament change command should be added on the line that contains the letter "Z" followed by the height where the text starts. Depending on the slicer being used, the GCODE may look different. This is how the GCODE generated by Slic3r might look with the filament change command when the height exceeds 1mm: G1 Z1.150 F6000.000 M600 The equivalent point in the file generated by Cura might look like: G0 F9000 X55.244 Y93.198 Z1.100 M600 When the printer reaches the filament change command, it retracts the filament out of the extruder and waits for the operator to insert new filament. It may sound the buzzer when waiting for a filament change. Be careful not to move the printhead while inserting new filament or the subsequent layers may not line up properly with those below. It might be necessary to add two 2mm high cubes to the print plate and arrange to add the M600 command between them so as to avoid unwanted blobs of molten filament being deposited on the nameplate. A suitable cube can be found in the attached files. When printing colored text on top of a black plate, the translucency of the colored filament may result in the text looking darker than desired. If this is a problem, insert two filament changes so that the first layer of text can be printed using white filament then use the desired color on top.
