The Nakamichi CM-300 microphones are incredibly versatile condenser microphones that shine when recording acoustic instruments, all at an affordable price. However, they do require a 9V battery, which can be notoriously difficult to find and doesn't last nearly as long as you'd like. After scouring around for alternative power sources, I discovered that stacking a CR2 (readily available) and an A544 battery inside the microphone body works remarkably well, despite being thinner and slightly less secure than the original batteries. To ensure they stay put, this adapter helps to keep them centered within the microphone's body. These batteries can be found at www.cheap-batteries.com for a fraction of their retail price. Important note: The Nakamichi CM-300 microphones have an impressive power tolerance and will work seamlessly up to 14 volts. To boost performance, try stacking two A544 batteries together (totaling 12V), which outperforms the standard combination of a 6V and a 3V battery. If you're interested in giving these versatile microphones a spin, I'm happy to send several your way for a few dollars, covering shipping costs.
