Nacemento - Baldaquino de Arcos de Furcos
sketchfab
Panel lateral left of the canopy of Arcos de Furcos. We are facing a crafted piece, undoubtedly, between the 2nd half of the 15th century and the 1st half of the 16th century, a time when most stone canopies were preserved in Galicia. In addition, it retains much similarity with the one conserved in San Salvador de Meis, dated to 1543 and featuring the same scenes as this one from Arcos, which could be an work by the same workshop. As can be seen, this scene represents the Birth of baby Jesus, placed over a wicker cradle and accompanied by a bull and a donkey. The scene is framed by Virgin Mary on the right and to the left, a pilgrim with a staff, as a variant of the Portuguese Way to Santiago passed through this parish. It is believed that this represents Saint Joseph. Currently, it is located in the courtyard of the parish church of San Breixo de Arcos de Furcos along with the two remaining panels (as if they were an altarpiece), an altar and a baptismal font.
