N95 Respirator Case
thingiverse
This is a case for storing N95 respirators, designed specifically for emergency situations with CDC guidance. Under normal conditions, N95 respirators should never be reused, but during this pandemic, the CDC has eased those guidelines and allowed for limited reuse. This case is only intended for use in emergency situations. If you plan to print this case for donation, please distribute a print copy of the following CDC guidelines with the case: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcontrols/recommendedguidanceextuse.html There are two versions available: one with ventilation holes and another without. The dial on the case is used to track the number of uses of the mask, as per CDC guidelines, which recommend limiting reuses to no more than five uses per device to ensure an adequate safety margin. The "Initials" area on the case is for marking ownership, in accordance with CDC guidelines, which suggest labeling containers or respirators with the user's name between uses. This helps reduce accidental usage of another person's respirator. The insert included with the case is designed to help maintain the shape of a damp mask and features a nose side and chin side. The finger hole makes it easier to open the case, while the design allows for attachment using a carabiner, which may be provided by donors. Before printing large quantities of these cases, please check with your intended donation recipient to ensure that non-sterile 3D-printed items are allowed in their facilities. Pending National Institute of Health "Clinically Reviewed" status, use this case at your own risk. I take no responsibility for damages caused through its use. This type of 3D printing produces objects that are very porous and provide favorable conditions for biological growth, making sterilization impossible. The case is not sealed and should be assumed to contain contaminants. During extended storage, place the case in a bio-hazard bag. You may not use this object for commercial purposes; it's intended for personal use or as a donation during times of extreme shortages of personal protective equipment. You accept all liability for donated items. I know this isn't a perfect solution, but considering the alternatives I've seen – from paper bags to bed pans – I believe this case may be a better option.
