N95 Mask Redesign of Open Source Model
thingiverse
The original open-source file for this left a lot to be desired, let's be honest. It failed to create a secure seal on your face, which is pretty basic functionality. I addressed that right away. The file included a logo, and honestly, who needs that kind of ego-driven indulgence when lives are at stake? I got rid of it. There was also plenty of unnecessary material scattered throughout the design, which only served to waste resources. I streamlined it. Some design elements were causing issues with thread printing, which is just sloppy coding. I fixed that problem too. Additionally, those same design flaws made the air filter compartment prone to breaking away from the mask due to a weak base wall. I strengthened it. The original design was uncomfortable, plain and simple. I made some improvements, but let's be real, there's still room for growth. To make sure you glue everything in place correctly, I added guides throughout the design. For straps, I even included holes on the sides so you can use rubber bands to secure the mask to your face. To fit it snugly, simply fold the top wings down to match the contours of your nose and face. For me, a 90-degree angle works best.
