N3DX Creator Pro Fume Vent Hood
thingiverse
I've owned numerous 3D printers over the years and at one point had ten Creator Pros. This excellent printer was perfect for learning and building skills, but now I only have one left, which hasn't been used in over a year. I pulled it out of storage and brought it into the shop with plans to do some customization to make it worthwhile again. My professional-grade printers require many upgrades to keep them competitive, so I downloaded several Things from Thingiverse to help me get started. The makers on this site have created amazing designs and upgrades that have been incredibly helpful. As a way of giving back, I thought I'd share the carbon fume vent hood we've been prototyping here at N3DX. With the assistance of Industrial Designer Brett Nuoci, we were able to achieve what you see here. Keep in mind that this is still in the prototyping phase and there will be many revisions before it's complete. All my printers now have carbon filtration for clean air, which I believe should be a priority when printing exotic filaments. For this prototype, I'm using ABS for its ease of acetone fusing parts together. The model requires fusing the carbon filter attachment to the top along with the wiring channel. Some amateur wiring will need to be done to make it functional. A 3.1" 12V fan that runs off two AA batteries controlled by an on/off toggle switch is also required. Small screws are needed for the fan cover, and most importantly, a piece of acrylic cut to the dimensions in the attached drawings must be used. Don't forget the carbon filter, which measures 2-3/4 x 4-1/4 x 3/4 inches. Once I've completed my first prototype, I'll make an assembly video for reference and post it here.
