N Scale Locomotive - GE EP-5
thingiverse
This is a detailed model (shell) of a General Electric EP-5 locomotive, specifically designed and manufactured for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. Known as "jets" due to their extremely loud cooling fans, these electric locomotives were notable for their powerful performance. This model shell is precision-engineered to fit perfectly on the chassis of a Lifelike E6 or E7, although it will not fit on the E8 chassis. For an authentic look, you will need to obtain separate detail parts such as horns, pantographs, and couplers. Notably, Tim Koopman generously provided an excellent triangle library, which can be accessed at https://github.com/tkoopman/Delta-Diamond/blob/master/OpenSCAD/Triangles.scad. Print Settings Details include: MakerBot Printer Brand and Model: MakerBot Replicator 2 No Rafts were used in this printing process Supports were not applied to the model The Resolution setting was set to High Infill percentage was set to 25% Post-Printing Tips After printing, your model requires sanding! You will get an opportunity to exercise your hobby knife and hone your sanding skills. Additionally, you may need to use some filler (such as automotive spot putty) to fill in the ridges on the curved hood of your model. Unfortunately, the 1.75mm filament cannot be printed directly into the noses of your body-mounted couplers without creating a noticeable ridge, much like those found on an Athearn MCH5012 locomotive.
