N scale 55 ton hopper car
thingiverse
OSTycoon's awesome HO 55 ton hopper car is scaled down to N scale with precision. A completely rebuilt version now uses OpenScad to construct the entire car, giving better control over wall thickness, which were initially quite thin. Moreover, this new design features a model with an embedded buck that simplifies filling it with a chosen load. High-resolution versions are now available for resin printers, boasting extremely thin walls and floors as well as intricately detailed brake platforms, ladders, and ribs. Please note that high-res rendering may take around 50 minutes on average machines. Instructions Commercial trucks (often purchased at low prices on online marketplaces) work seamlessly with this HO scale car. The truck will clip onto the bottom pin easily without the need for any complicated assembly. Apply a small drop of superglue if necessary to prevent it from coming loose during transportation. For optimal results, print the model lying flat on top, ensuring the overhangs align closely enough to be support-free without compromising structural integrity. Avoid using rafts as they can negatively impact overall stability. PLA is an excellent material choice for this design. Based on experience, a 10-degree increase in printing temperature seems to provide satisfactory results, surpassing what most materials demand under similar conditions. In order to obtain the optimal performance out of high-resolution models, the manufacturer recommends adjusting cure times upwards by around 10 percent. Furthermore, taking note of peel direction and laying down support where needed will yield impressive, well-defined prints from printers like Wanhao D7 units. Prints made with PLA tend to fare best when the printing temperature is adjusted accordingly; that said, for high-res versions on resin printers such as the Wanhao D7 model used here for printing. It should be placed lying flat on its top layer in order for overhanging areas (like those for ladders and hoppers), take into account proper peel direction in which these features could snap otherwise because their walls remain quite thin in reality even if resin printing may compensate this a bit. Always turn up your printer settings' cure times by about 10%. When peeling out a model with fragile layers (and yes the resin model might fall under this heading as you know already due its delicate walls that get really stressed easily.) make sure it starts at corners so walls will break much more gradually, I for instance tweaked printing temperature in favor of resin here.
