Mensula, Salon of Pazo de Xelmirez, XIII century (Santiago de Compostela) We see a crowned musician here who holds with his legs an oval five-string viola. As he practices a better position for the bridge, he holds in his right hand a bow. This mensula with three characters highlights in the center a figure holding a bottle with a shape similar to a globe, and with a finger of his other hand signals it, as if inviting us to try its contents. On the other end is a Rota that also appears on the Pórtico da Gloria and in the hands of King David from the Compostela cathedral facade.
