Just for fun: To my knowledge, there is no mechanical sailboat whose mast tilts and rotates freely, without any lateral bracing. The forestay and backstay are present to bring the sails forward, naturally following the mast as it tilts and operating independently when the mast pivots on itself. To maximize wind capture, the mast is contoured to optimize airflow along the mainsail. It can also pivot and tilt to stay perpendicular to the water when the boat is tilted, with no secondary stays in sight. Work in progress
