CMNH 3917 is a Myriacantherpestes clarkorum fossil from the Middle Pennsylvanian period. It was discovered in siltstone above the lower Freeport Coal of the Allegheny Group. The fossil was collected by Alan, Bruce, and Quentin Clark in 1969 from an abandoned coal strip mine near Brown's Chapel in Monongalia County, West Virginia. The specimen is approximately 19 cm long and serves as the holotype for the species, defining its characteristics based on the original publication of Myriacantherpestes clarkorum by J.J. Burke in 1973. The slab also contains plant fragments, including Lepidophylloides leaves from Lepidodendron and Macroneuropteris scheuchzeri leaves, identified by Dr. Michael Donovan, Senior Collections Manager at CMNH's Paleobotany and Paleoecology Department.
