The Real Model of My Own Brain from an MRI Scan is Created Separately into Seven Parts Linked by Small Magnets, Suitable for Educational Use. Definitions: LH1 = Left Hemisphere, Part 1 LH2 = Left Hemisphere, Part 2 RH1 = Right Hemisphere, Part 1 RH2 = Right Hemisphere, Part 2 LC1 = Lt Cerebellum, Part 1 LC2 = Lt Cerebellum, Part 2 RC1 = Rt Cerebellum, Part 1 RC2 = Rt Cerebellum, Part 2 MR = Medulla, Rt Side ML = Medulla, Lt Side compare100 and compare80 are Small Test Objects for Comparing 80% Resolution with Full Resolution (see descriptions below) Printer Settings: Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 mm layer 0.4mm nozzle Infill: 10-15% Notes: The parts were cut to have a flat surface, minimizing the need for support. Use Meshmixer to generate supports (select overhang angle of 20 Deg). Post-Printing Instructions: Some parts are split into two but you must glue them after printing. Some other parts are cut in two and require inserting small magnets inside the holes. Use 6mm magnets and glue them in the holes. If downsizing the model, be aware that smaller magnets will be needed. A long hole is present in the medulla (the lowest part). I glued a metallic tube of the proper size (from an old telescopic antenna) into that place, then mounted the entire brain on a metallic rod onto a wooden plate. How This Design Was Created: Firstly, I had my brain scanned via MRI (I am a staff radiologist at a university hospital). Then I extracted the brain from the MR scan using FSL software (other software can also be used). Next, it was divided into several parts to facilitate printing with minimal supports and allow disassembly for educational purposes. My original files were excessively large; therefore, I reduced mesh density using Meshmixer. This reduction resulted in a 10% loss of quality and 90% reduction in file size. Two small parts are included at the original size and reduced size for comparison (compare100 and compare80). Please do not print these files. Instead, examine them to see how they were reduced.
