My Utility Knife Slim
thingiverse
I previously created a refined version of an existing knife on Thingiverse, but I was eager to make it even more compact. To achieve this, I completely redesigned the knife from scratch. Here's my vision for this compact knife: 1. I aimed to create the most compact knife possible without sacrificing its strength. Compared to my previous design, every dimension is smaller. 2. Safety was a top priority. When retracted, the blade is positioned far enough away from the edge to ensure it won't accidentally cut you in your pocket. 3. I minimized material usage while ensuring that the removed material serves a purpose. The knife now features a dual slip system, allowing you to choose between a lightweight and stiffer slide option. Additionally, I optimized the blade holder for easier grip by reducing its size. Left-handed users can easily adapt this design by inverting it. Simply open the model in TinkerCAD, drag one side over the other, and return it to the original dimensions. For optimal performance, I highly recommend printing at the highest resolution possible. On my Ender 3, a print job with 60mm/s speed, 100% infill, skirt, and 0.12 layer height takes under an hour and a half to complete. Using 0.16 layer height takes slightly longer but results in a less smooth finish.
