My Ultimate Spool Holder

My Ultimate Spool Holder

My version of the ultimate spool holder. Out of the way, low friction, easy spool change. Here is a vid https://www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/comments/vns81d/my_favorite_filament_holders_out_of_the_way_very/ Requires drilling 1/4-inch hole vertically in the top frame bar. Requires 6 inches of 1/4-20 threaded rod, three metal washers, and two 1/4-20 nuts. (Optional: print 1/4-20 Butterfly nut and some sort of spring for the top IF your spool wants to unravel.) Measure your filament spool center hole to determine which Centering Spacers to use, and print the one 2mm smaller (ex: if your spool center is 54mm, print the 52mm Center Spacer for easy fitment; doesn't matter if it's loose, it will hold the spool well!) If you want to use a ball bearing, you have 2 choices: (Choice 1) Print the "Bottom Plate with 608 bearing hole" and one Centering Spacer for the top. Done. OR (Choice 2) Print Inner and Outer bearing sleeves, and TWO Centering Spacers (top+bottom.) Done. I have one of each choice for my 2 printers and they both work equally well. They were both prototypes but they work so well that I didn't have to refine anything. I guess the one using the Bottom Plate with 608 bearing is slightly lower profile, and fits any spool's center hole dimension, and you only need to print one Centering Spacer for the top. If I purchased another printer, I'd use the Bottom Plate with 608 Bearing.
