My Take on Corona Virus Covid-2019 Easy Print No Supports (Some Assembly Required)
thingiverse
I decided to create a macro plastic version of the COVID-2019 Coronavirus while stuck at home due to its prevalence. Taking inspiration from online images of the virus, including one found on thingiverse.com, I designed this model from scratch without remaking an existing design. I deliberately avoided using supports and aimed to produce a multicolor model without requiring a multi-material printer. This led me to work on designing the thing. This model is very easy to print even on small printers. The body measures 50mm in diameter, while the spikes are approximately 20mm long. To assemble this model, you will need two body halves, one pin, and 45 spikes. I used a brim for the spikes and set my printer to Z-hop to prevent the spikes from toppling over during printing. For assembly, adhesive for car trim or alternatives like 3D gloop, super glue, or hot glue can be used. I printed this model in translucent blue PLA and red PLA. Its dimensions are a bit cartoonish but make it an excellent reference piece. I believe this project would be suitable for kids who have been out of school due to the pandemic shutdown. Printing this model will not infect you with the virus; instead, remember to wash your hands and exercise caution during this time.
