The human body is made up of approximately 60 trillion cells, which are grouped into different types and perform various functions to keep the body alive and functioning properly. Cells in the human body can be broadly classified into two main categories: somatic cells and germ cells. Somatic cells make up the majority of cells in the adult body and are responsible for growth, development, repair, and maintenance of tissues and organs. Germ cells, on the other hand, produce gametes that will develop into sperm or egg cells during reproduction. There are several types of human cells, each with unique characteristics and functions. Red blood cells carry oxygen to various parts of the body, while white blood cells help fight off infections. Platelets play a crucial role in blood clotting. Nerve cells transmit signals throughout the nervous system, enabling communication between different parts of the body. In addition to these specialized cells, there are also stem cells that have the ability to differentiate into different cell types and repair damaged tissues. The human immune system protects the body against pathogens by producing antibodies that recognize and neutralize foreign substances.
