My dream sailing dinghy
thingiverse
I'm working on a dinghy design that I hope to build for myself someday. My concept is heavily inspired by Jim Michalak's sailboat, the Hapscut, which can be found at duckworks.com/product-p/jm-hapscut.htm. I've fallen in love with this design because of its unique features like an asymmetric mast and a rectangular bow that makes it easy to beach land and step out with dry feet. The mizzen sail is another key feature that I appreciate, as it allows the boat to point into the wind even after taking down the larger sail. There's also a fantastic review of this project at duckworksmagazine.com/14/projects/hapscut/index.htm. While my version will take some compromises from the original design, the hull is very similar. I've decided to go without a cabin and prefer sailing in an open boat. I'll be uploading a model of the original Hapscut with a cabin soon, so stay tuned! In addition to this, I'm planning on creating more accessories such as a tent for sleeping and a fordable splash screen at the front. Jim Michalak's designs are instantly recognizable and worth checking out if you're interested in sailboats. You can find his designs at jimsboats.com.
