My Brain!

My Brain!

thingiverse

I haven't uploaded in a while, so here is a copy of my brain. Print it out and place it in a robot, and it will make 3D models for you and post them here! I recently got an MRI to check for brain masses (all clear!), and the doctor, noting me as the curious type, mentioned I could get my data on a CD for free. So I did just that, then I used this script to convert the data (over the course of 16 hours) into a 3D recreation of the surface of my cortical and subcortical structures! I made a little stand for it, too! If you want to do this with your own MRI data, the easiest way is to use this Docker image. It has all the dependencies for the script (FSL, Freesurfer, a bunch of things from apt-get), plus additional tools and scripts to make the conversion process as painless as possible. The readme is also written for a non-technical user. The EGJ_brain.stl and EGJ_brain_stand.stl are the "final" outputs. There may be some printability issues, I couldn't fix them for the life of me. The remaining files are the raw outputs from the surface reconstruction algorithm. You can use this for whatever you like. Just remember to clearly credit me as the source of the model, alongside any other credits for the project it's used in. My ego simply won't allow my brain to be put into some form of popular media or a mass-produced product without being able to prove to people that it's mine.
