I made this 3D model after my grandfather's sawmill was dismantled.During the dry summers, the paddle wheel lacked power, and the steam engine was no longer allowed to run. So my grandfather bought this second hand engine in Strasbourg around 1960 to replace it.This engine is a MWM SH19z model, built in Munich in 1933, one of the very first diesel stationnary engines. It still exists and runs at a friend collector.According to my research with German and French collectors, and also MWM engineers, it is likely that this engine is the last one left in the world...It weighs 1,1 ton and develops 17hp at 450 rpm. In order to keep its memory close to me, I decided to build a functional but "modern" replica, since it runs on electricity and can be used in my living room.It is at 0.3 scale and the production of sounds is made from a plenty of real audio samples picked up from the original engine. Two computers are in charge of producing and modulating the sounds according to the running conditions (rpm, load, regulation...). Two speakers are located at the level of the cylinder head gaskets and a third one (boomer) is hidden in the oil pan. They also control the injection pump regulator and the flame production in the exhaust manifold. With the exception of some small mechanical parts and the flywheel, most of the engine was printed in PLA and then painted to its current (aged) color. The 3D files do not include the electric motorization or the camshaft gears.Hope you will enjoy this share.
