The 58-meter-long MV Karwela, a vintage tourist ferry that once cruised around Malta's Grand Harbour, was deliberately sunk in August 2006 to create an artificial reef off Gozo's southeastern coast. Its grand staircase has become renowned among scuba divers and marine enthusiasts worldwide.
