Fluorite exhibits varying degrees of transparency to translucency, often displaying stunning blue or purple hues. This versatile mineral is commonly found in crystalline cubes within veins and is frequently associated with lead, tin, and zinc ores; hardness measures 4 on the Mohs scale, making it a significant source of fluorine. Also known as Derbyshire spar; fluor; fluorspar, fluorite holds the unique distinction of being the only common mineral featuring four directions of perfect cleavage.
