Music Drop (Fixed Bits & Game Of Thrones Edition)
thingiverse
I've been working on this print for a couple of weeks now, and I can see why there aren't any successful prints out there - the success rate is likely very low. I fixed several of the models using Meshmixer and sharing them. I'm also including the dragon egg version of the case. I had an idea to recess the drop inside a dragon egg and have it play a snippet from the Game of Thrones intro, which comes with a disc since the music download site is currently offline. The result looks cool, but I couldn't quite make out the tune. Even with a very fine tip, I couldn't get the original disc to print well, so I recreated the notes inside Tinkercad with slightly better settings; unfortunately, I could only just barely make out the tune. To strengthen the trigger posts and disc, I applied a brush-on super glue on the surface, which seems to work very effectively and prevents the trigger posts from breaking - something that happened to me with the original design even when using glue. The instructions say to put the screws in from behind, but for some reason, the nuts dampened the tines. I also had to use a washer as a spacer instead of nuts since mine were apparently larger; that didn't sound quite right, though. I hope they get the site back online soon so I can finish my other print with a different tune. It might be a good reason to try out OpenSCAD. UPDATE: The site seems to be up again: http://musicdrop.leftfieldlabs.com/ UPDATE 2: Spoke too soon - the site is down or having issues, it seems. Print Settings: Printer Brand: SeeMeCNC Printer: Rostock MAX Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .10mm Infill: 80% Notes: I used -5mm on the Z-axis when positioning on the bed to give it a flat bottom that can stand upright on its own. This print was very intricate, and I ended up using a 0.25mm nozzle. The egg case I printed with .40mm nozzle at 20% infill, but I did print an original case with the above settings (unfinished currently). I used green and yellow eSun PETG. How I Designed This: To give you an idea of the repairs, the case was error-prone and Simplify3D just wouldn't slice it right, causing missing pieces and weird lines. The little fixer cap was literally turned inside out, so I had to flip normals to make it properly solid. Ummm... no wonder why S3D laughed when I tried to slice it. It looks a lot cleaner now after nearly spending an entire day repairing it manually in Meshmixer.
