The former home of Arturo Posnaski, the Tiwanaku Palace was rented by ex-president Jose Gutierrez Guerra so that the National and Mineralogical Museum could operate within this infrastructure. It was later purchased by the State with the approval of former President Bautista Saavedra, being inaugurated on January 31, 1960 under the name National Archaeology Museum.
