Muscular Dystrophy Flat Spoon
thingiverse
I created this spoon for Elsha, following the precise measurements she provided. She has been living with muscular dystrophy since birth and reached out to our community through a post on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/groups/things-with-actual-uses/topic:11607#comment-1236363). The disease progressively degenerates muscle tissue over time, making Elsha's condition more challenging every day. She is incredibly talented in creating artwork using only her head, as seen on her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/u2elshanator). Initially, I thought the measurements were a prank, but after connecting with Elsha on Facebook and seeing pictures of her, everything fell into place. Here are some photos of the printed prototypes. Fortunately, I recently acquired a Form2 to print this delicate design. You can watch a video of the spoon being printed here: https://youtu.be/Ae80t6pXSvo The photo shows a metric scale, the printing process, and post-curing. You can also check out the print process in this video: https://youtu.be/bqJ4-MfYMfU. Please note that there is important information on food safety below. Print Settings: Printer: Form2 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: Highest Quality Infill: - Notes: I oriented the spoon slightly sideways at about 40 degrees and then let Preform create supports. I still need to test if there is a better orientation. The clear Resin I used for printing the spoon is not food safe! Please refer to the summary below to ensure you don't misuse 3D printing for objects that come into contact with food or your mouth. How I Designed This: I used Cinema 4D as my go-to tool. I employed hypernurbs with a low-poly version of the spoon, making it easily adjustable to Elsha's needs. Food Safety and Molding: Important information on food safety and 3D printing: Use 3D printed objects at your own risk and get well-informed, as not all materials are safe and not all production processes are safe.
