About 650 BC, monumental marble statues of young women and men began to be crafted in Greece with remarkable skill. These statues are known as "Korai" and "Kouroi", which in Greek directly translate to "maidens" and "youths". Commissioned by prominent families, these statues were proudly erected as votive offerings in sacred sanctuaries. They were also erected as monuments to honor burial mounds. The "Munich Kouros" is a statue from a grave in Attica that showcases an athletic ideal with its heavy proportions and short hair. This magnificent piece of art dates back to 540/530 BC. This incredible object is part of the groundbreaking project called "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative created by MyMiniFactory, which aims to build a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from all around the globe for the public to access absolutely free.
