This is a replacement part designed specifically for the Munchkin Extending Extra Tall and Wide Metal Baby Gate, a product available on http://www.munchkin.com/extending-extra-tall-and-wide-metal-gate-white.html. The part in question is the lower hinge pin, notorious for breaking easily with prolonged use. Initially, I crafted a replacement from hardwood, but that failed to last long. Let's see how this new version holds up. Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.4mm layer height Infill: 100% Notes: I chose a relatively low resolution of 0.4mm layer height, as the part is not visually prominent. I opted for 100% infill to ensure the part's robustness, given its small size. Three-millimeter PLA filament was used. Post-Printing You may need to enlarge the hole slightly for the metal screw, as it can be quite snug. To secure the metal screw in place, a twenty-minute epoxy designed specifically for plastic parts was applied. Design Process The part was created using Autodesk 123D Design. The design is straightforward, consisting of a single cylinder (the pin) joined to a cube with a hole for the metal screw (visible under the model during printing; see attached image). Critical Measurements Two key measurements are essential: the size of the hole where the metal screw goes and the overall dimension & fillet of the "head," which must be able to rotate horizontally about the pin. The top of the head could potentially be reduced in size for a more streamlined design. In this first version, I prioritized extreme robustness.
