Multiversal Pegboard Hook Concept - Inch and Metric
prusaprinters

In a previous print I proposed a "Universal Pegboard Hook" here :

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/54601-universal-pegboard-hook-us-and-metric

That hook works on both inch and metric vertical spacing, but the same concept does not adapt well to horizontal spacing for arbitrary spacing.

This print takes the universal hook to another dimension - hence "multiversal." The idea is that the hooks fit into slots which allow for some adjustment of the horizontal spacing. Prints using this concept for pegboard mounting with multiple hooks can therefor be made to work for both inch and metric spacing for arbitrary lengths between hooks. This can be made to work for both vertically and horizontally spaced hooks.

A key element to keep in mind when using this concept is that the upper curved hook should be located very near the top edge of the print; this is necessary so that the curved hook can be inserted end-on before rotating down the object being mounted. The curved edge at the top end of the plate also helps provide clearance when inserting into the pegboard.

The bottom "hook" has a flexible ball-like end which inserts into the pegboard and expands to provide a firm grip.

To summarize, the key features of this proof-of-concept print are as follows :

hook position can be adjusted in the slot

hook can be inserted sideways into a blind slot and rotated into place

curved top edge for clearance

curves in slot to enable printing over-hangs

hooks print sideways for maximum strength

The OnShape 3D CAD files for this are here :

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/68fc6059641ec3807e29da1b/w/624c5ad9ac20beca2624a596/e/791f0e695ccc92f8ea62bca3

Print instructions

Print in PLA using the 3mf file provided.

In general :

The small hook parts must be printed with a brim to ensure bed adhesion

hooks print oriented on their sides

print hooks with perimeters = 5 for maximum strength

plate prints with slots facing up

ASSEMBLY :

The hooks can be inserted by sliding in from the side - insert them in the positions shown in the photos.

In addition, it is possible to use this system with a "blind" slot (closed at both ends). To insert the hooks without sliding them in sideways, rotate the hook 90 degrees from its final position and force the "foot" into the slot (this will be a very tight fit). Once the hook is fully in the slot, rotate it into its final position - you will feel some initial resistance to rotation until the hooks "pops" into place.
