Multivariate normal distribution

Multivariate normal distribution

thingiverse

This is a multivariate gaussian distribution generated programmatically using Blender's Python API and finished in Autodesk Fusion 360. The model represents the joint probability density function of two standard normally distributed variables in 3D. The highest point in the middle is the mean. The model is cut off at ±4 standard deviations (SD) from the mean. If printed at 100% scale, 1 SD is equal to 1 cm. The z-dimension is scaled up by a factor of 20, otherwise the model would just be a tiny bump. The base was added for better printability and does not correspond to any actual values in the distribution. Holding the model in your hands and inspecting it visually reveals just how few values lie beyond 3 SD from the mean.
