Multimaterial Macross / Robotech License Plate Holder
thingiverse
This is a license plate holder inspired by Macross/Robotech's sleek aesthetic, specifically featuring the iconic tail number of Milia Fallyna/Miriya Sterling's Valkyrie/Veritech. To stay true to its origins, I suggest printing it in bold red to really make it pop. Designed for US plates, measuring 308mm x 154mm, this holder is tailored for California-issued plates. If you're a fan of Max, simply swap out the red components for blue and you're good to go. Alternatively, if you're flying high like Hikaru/Rick in their VF-1J, replace the right/left red parts with white, flipping the right/left white parts to red – though be aware that this will mess up the circle details. For Skull Leader's style, swap the center white to black and the center red to yellow. Initially, I designed this holder thicker, using 6mm M3 screws to hold it together. However, upon testing, I found it too bulky for my car, so I slimmed it down to 6mm thickness. This means you can't rely on the M3 screw holes for permanent attachment – they're best used for holding pieces in place while superglue sets. To help secure this holder to your car's bumper, I've included optional bottom spikes that line up with the corresponding holes on the license plate. This design feature has proven particularly useful for my own vehicle, which boasts matching holes in its bumper. When printing these files, be sure to orient them face down and drag all the right parts together to ensure proper registration – especially if you're using a Prusa Slicer for MMU printing. Do the same for the left and center components, and don't forget to include the tabs that will help hold everything in place. Due to the complexity of this design, it's recommended to print them in two separate files.
