MultiBot Laser Bed
thingiverse
I have been casting around for a good yet low cost laser bed for my [MultiBot CNC](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4645791) machine. I picked up a [$9 expert steel jerky drying rack](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Expert-Grill-Carbon-Steel-Jerky-Roasting-Rack-and-Drip-Pan-Set/681452970) from Walmart. This worked well but it was not as stable or level as I would like and I had a lot of flashback from the shiny wireframe rack. To improve things I hit it with a can of matt black paint and then printed a series of standoffs to permanently attach the rack and pan together with a gap for the smoke to get out from under the bed. I also made mounts to use a yardstick as a straight edge for registering the material, and finally put rubber feet on the bottom to stabilize the pan and keep it from sliding around while cutting. That all worked great. My rack has a 430x300 mm working volume and I am only seeing about 1 mm of height variance across the whole surface.
