Multi purpose sliding lid boxes with easy to use locking mechanism PARAMETRIZABLE

This is a model of a convenient sliding lid box with an easy to use locking mechanism consisting of a bump on the lid that keeps it securely closed. Note that for slim boxes the lid does not bend as much and the locking and unlocking may be a bit harder for the first few times.

The box is fully parametrizable, there is a table in the Freecad (Sliding Lid Box parametric.FCStd) file where you may adjust length, width, height and various other things:

Length, width, height is talking for itself. These measures are always the measures of the inner space of the box.

Wall_Thickness: For bigger boxes, the wall thickness can be adjusted to more than 2mm.

No. of Holes Length: That are the number of vertical holes in the length walls of the box. The diameter is adjusted automatically according to the height (minus “Reduction Vertical Holes”), so you just need to put in the number you want and which makes sense.

No. of Holes Width: That are the number of vertical holes in the width walls of the box. The diameter is adjusted automatically according to the height (minus “Reduction Vertical Holes”), so you just need to put in the number you want and which makes sense.

Lidholes: 2 if you want a cutout in the lid, 0 if not. If 0, there is always a fingerhole, so your may open the lid. Here also the reduction value horizontal holes apply.

Bottomholes: 2 if you want a cutout in the bottom, 0 if not.

Frontholes 0/1: 0 if the front should be solid (for battery cases to insulate the contacts), 1 if the width holes for the back wall also apply to the front wall.

Reduction horizontal & vertical holes: This is the reduction from the Height and Width to have some “meat” in the box which makes it sturdier and more rigid.

Lid Text: Here you can enter some text like a name or telephone Number which appears engraved in the Lid.

The next values are for the size, tracking and placement of that Lid text. As the Lid text is facing the inner side of the box, you may want to hide the box by selecting it and hitting the space button to see the lid text facing the bottom of the box.

Be sure to place the lid with the closing bump on the top side in your favourite slicer. The orientation is just right, so you shouldn't need to change it.

After printing, the lid is placed in the box with the bump facing inside the box at the end where you thread the lid like this:

If you do not want to install / fiddle around with Freecad, just leave me a comment with the size needed and information about the holes / recesses and I will adjust it in Freecad and upload the STL mesh here.

If you find other useful applications, just let me know in the comments.

If you want to see upgrades like inner compartments, pls also let me know.

Happy Printing!
