Multi Cyclone

Multi Cyclone

I made this multi-cyclone to work as a pre-filter when cleaning the pool, saving a lot of water in the process by minimizing water needed for backwashing. Designed specifically for fine particles, it works well as a filter for the shop vac too - just remember it's meant for fine particles. In making this, I did a lot of research on how these things work and the math involved. The design parameters are carefully chosen, not randomly selected. The result is an efficient and easy-to-print cyclone. To separate all those fine particles out, high speed and low travel distance are essential. Combining that with high volume throughput led to a setup featuring multiple combined cyclones. See my notes on assembly after printing. The nozzles are designed to fit pool and shop vac hoses. If you want to use it for household vacuuming, you'll need to make a reducer. Be careful not to use too powerful pumps with this print. High pressure differences can cause implosion, so start slow. This multi-cyclone is designed to be printed without supports. 2017.12.05: I fixed the issue where the nozzle and manifold didn't show up in 3D Thingiverse view.
