Multi-Colors Using Layers
thingiverse
Shading with layers, multiple colors without dual extrusion. Print unique luggage or property tags by using different colors and z-stops. 3 different tags attached. Items are customizable in solid works. -Dog tag -Tuna tag -Basic blank tag How I Designed This Design based on layer heights. I decided on a graphical item that meets the following criteria. -Has shading requirements. -Is multicolor. -Has high contrast colors. I chose layer height and color scheme. -.2mm layer height for TPU &/or PLA filament. I then designed the object around the chosen layer height. -I decided on a object with a 3 mm base thickness. -I began cutting away layers with .2mm difference in height. Custom Section Project: Shading with layers, multiple colors without dual extrusion. Project Name: Shading with layers, multiple colors without dual extrusion. Overview & Background: Students will learn how to design items that incorporate different layer thicknesses and filament changes for shading and visual effects. Objectives: Designing objects in layers, utilizing z-stop points, shading/visual effects. Audiences: Intermediate - Expert Subjects: Graphic arts, CADD Design, Skills Learned (Standards): Filament changes, designing graphics, problem solving, multiple colors without dual extrusion Lesson/Activity: Decide on a graphical item that meets following criteria. -Has shading requirements. -Is multicolor. -Has high contrast colors. Choose layer height and color scheme. -.2mm layer height recommended for TPU filament. Design object around chosen layer height. -Decide on bottom/base color design object with 3 mm base thickness.(PIC) -Begin drawing layers with .2mm difference in height. -Record different layer heights to know where to program z-stops. See video for z-stop changehttps://youtu.be/saRuymPIdl8 Duration: Carefully choosing a design, that has two to three colors with simple graphics. 30 min. Draw graphics to utilize .2mm layer height to create contrast and display color boundaries. 90 min Print item and change colored filament utilizing Z-stops one or more times. 60 min Preparation: Basic 3D Modeling software. (FreeCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCADD, etc.) Basic 3D printer knowledge. At least 2 different colors of filaments. Pre chosen graphic. References: None. Rubric & Assessment: 2-3 millimeter thick object designed around .2 mm layer height. Coaster, personal item tag, luggage tag, Frisbee, stained glass(tpu) window. Handouts & Assets: Print or send attachments to students to give them ideas on where to start. Dog picture, Tuna Picture, Sphero picture. Simple item to start with.
