In order to protect myself from rain and mud I decided to upgrade my beloved puch clubman - a street bike from the 80ies - with a rear mud guard. Or fender. Or “Kotflügel”, which is a very common German word for mud guards, and translates to something poetic like “faeces-wing". So much for random facts…And here's what a normal person would do in such a situation: go into a mudguard-shop and buy a fender, mount it and ride that bike happily through the rainy streets, never again wasting a thought on such a mundane piece of plastic. But not me. I'm a person from the future. I don't buy things, I print them. And pay double the amount in filament for goods just half as good.At least this time I didn't have to go through dozens of iterations again. Maybe half a dozen. And a year of outdoor-testing because it was wobbling like crazy on each tiny road bump and actually looked absolutely horrible. Both problems were solved with one simple solution: giving it a structural texture. Also changing the material from PETG to PA12-CF made a big difference. In case you want to make it of some less stiff filament, there's a version (#14) with some kind of struts on the underside (untested).Leaving my bike at the train stations public bicycle stand unattended for days is a perfect test for abuse-resistance, which this mudguard has passed with A-grades. Don't know though if it actually protects from splashes of rain since I don't ride my bike in such unpleasant conditions. But I'm rather confident it would do it's job, given the opportunity.Additional parts necessary for attaching are: 2x M5 and 2x M6 bolts and (lock-)nuts. I believe it's M5 and M6, please don't pin me down on that. And it probably also fits other street bikes from that era. If yours looks similar, just do the measurements and maybe you're lucky. Required print bed is 400x400. Recommended print orientation is sideways with an adequate amount of support for the rim.
