MTW Create Spool Holder
thingiverse
I finally got around to remixing geartechbrandon's Spool Holder Stand, which I originally discovered through the last spool holder Type A Machines released for their Series 1 3D printer, and Brandon Toomey updated and still hosts on solidstateprinters.com, so that it can be mounted to an MTW Create 3D printer. According to the guys at MTW, this should work on both the current MTW Create and the upcoming MTW Create 2 (sorry, but this is not for the Create Express). There are currently a few different versions of the main spool holder, but I would recommend V1.8 for now. The main difference between the V1.8 and V1.85 is that V1.85 is completely solid, while V1.8 has a few cutouts so less material is required and it looks/feels less bulky. Older versions are bulkier and have features that may or may not be necessary; I'll leave the old versions up, and let you try them. V1.8 and V1.85 both have a hole for a 5/16 inch X 3 1/2 inch lag screw to be inserted for additional long term strength (thanks to the guys at MTW for this suggestion!). It should only require hand turning until the last few turns, which then might require some elbow grease to seat it into the final position. The tip of the screw should protrude slightly from the end of the rod as shown in the attached photo. I have also added the simplified 30/50 mm sleeves and flat nut from solidstateprinters.com, along with the not so flat nut from Type A Machines, to the files section. The spool holder should be printed on its flat back, with only a small amount of support material for the few overhangs. I am now considering another iteration (V1.9?) which would be even slimmer! It should only require hand turning until the last few turns, which might require some torque. The screw should protrude slightly from the end of the rod as shown in the attached photo. 11-18-19 UPDATE #2: Added V1.8 and V1.85. Same designs as V1.7/V1.75, but made space to add a metal bolt for additional strength. I used a 5/16 inch X 3 1/2 inch lag screw as a model, but I have not yet printed and tested the fit for this. If anyone gets a chance to try this before me, please let me know if it fits! ***SUB-UPDATE: I noticed that these files were not quite laying flat on 3D print build platforms, and also centered the screw holes, so I have updated these files to fix these "issues".*** 11-18-19 UPDATE #1: Added V1.7 and V1.75. Both have been slimmed down substantially, and it should be slightly easier to print than the previous versions (still printed with flat back laying on build platform). V1.75 is made to be an easier print than V1.7, but V1.75 might use more material. As of now, V1.7 and V1.75 are UNTESTED.
