MTW Create filament spool holder
thingiverse
I wanted to design a brand new spool holder for my MTW Create machine. Unfortunately, the original spool holder is nice and smooth, but it takes up too much space on the table behind the printer, leaving me with hardly any room to spare. So, I decided to make use of the vertical space I do have available. This new design should work just fine with the spool sitting on the cross bar, although I wanted to make it easier for the spool to float a bit more smoothly, which is why I used some skateboard bearings that were lying around and created some spacers to keep the spool from falling off. To install this new spool holder, remove the top caps on your MTW Create machine and attach the left and right brackets using the old M5 screws. I also added a slot nut in the back and secured it with another M5 screw to attach the lower arm to the back of the printer. Next, print two spacers and one center piece. It's not entirely clear from the picture, but there are washers on both sides of the bearings for added stability. When assembling everything, I didn't tighten the nuts too much, but instead used double nuts to keep everything securely in place. The all-thread used was a leftover piece of 8mm rod that I had available.
