Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a monumental tribute carved directly into the rugged granite face of Mount Rushmore in the majestic Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota. Master sculptor Gutzon Borglum conceived and expertly oversaw the monumental project's development from 1927 to 1941 with invaluable assistance from his son, Lincoln Borglum. The breathtaking sculpture boasts colossal 60-foot (18 m) heads of four visionary Presidents: George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865), carefully selected by Borglum to symbolize the nation's pivotal milestones - birth, growth, development, and preservation.
