MSR Whisperlite Duraseal pump tabs fix
thingiverse
MSR make amazing stoves! After 25 short years of usage, a slighly aggressive upstroke of the pump resulted in the two tabs retaining the pump shaft snapping off. This was on the peak of a mountain and despite searching the little pieces of plastic were lost forever. A quick bit of research turned up two things. 1. As it's MSR you can readily buy a replacement pump for it - however it's not cheap, about half the price of a replacement stove. 2. This happens a lot to the duraseal pumps - and Cascade Designs are pretty good about replacing them if you live in the US. I don't. So solution - print something that is strong enough to hold the pump shaft in place, without interfering with the fuel attachment. This part is a friction fit that slots over and then flush with the pump body. It's a tight fit, and holds very well, and the design also allows the pump shaft to be removed just as the original did. This part isn't exposed to any pressure or fuel, it merely stops the shaft from flying out on a pump upstroke - so no concerns about leaks etc. What this does do, is give life to an otherwise perfect pump and prevent unnecessary wastage!
