MSI Creator 17 Screen Brace
thingiverse
The hinges on my MSI Creator 17 '21 laptop were experiencing significant stress while in use open in my work truck while doing drone-based surveying of areas with rough roads, to the point where one hinge came apart and had to be glued back together. I designed this prototype bumper/brace to hold the laptop open at a 100 degree angle while providing support to the hinge and some shock absorbtion. This is intended to be printed out of TPU. Dimensions are based on the hinge that had split, which is 2mm thicker than it originally was, so I will likely publish a second file later that is based on the stock dimensions. This is for the right side and should be mirrored for the left hinge. V1 test printed on a Creality Ender 3 S1 with TPU. V1 is dimensionally too large vertically. V2 has some dimensional adjustments due to some fitment issues with v1, more bracing for the screen, and a slot for the laptop's feet. This version has a surplus triangle that has been removed in V3. V3 removes a triangle inadvertently introduced in V2 that results in poor fitment with the hinge. There will be a v4 to increase the size of the surface at the back/bottom, but I can't get a good measurement until I have a part that fits right in all other areas so it will have tow wait for V3 to finish printing.
