MPMD Monoprice Mini Delta 770mm or Custom Height Z Mod
thingiverse
770mm Z mod for the Monoprice Mini Delta. This is my first attempt and it's already being refined, but as it stands, it works remarkably well. Further design efforts will center around a 6-printer Hexagon shaped configuration using only 7 1M 2020 Extrusions for printer farm use. You don't have to make it a whole meter tall; just add whatever length of 8mm rod you wish. 500mm is pretty reasonable, while 1M is a bit overkill. No Firmware hacks are needed. Just use the start and end Gcode below to trick it into printing and homing properly with the expanded Z height. I couldn't tell the difference between the test cat on this printer versus the stock printer, so if you have it tuned well, it should print very good. The test cat was printed with the original Gcode with the starting and ending Gcode below. Parts List: 1M 2020 Extrusion X3 1M 8mm Linear Rod X6 X4 M3 screws and bolts for extruder and spool holder 1M bowden tube (cut to desired length) Misc 18 gauge wire. Over 6m GT2 Belt X 3 Upgraded 16T Gt2 Motor pulleys and idlers for GT2 Belt (stock belt is a thin MXL) you may be able to use the original pulleys; check and see if they fit a GT2 belt. Assembly is pretty straightforward. Take the whole printer apart and just slap it all together and hope it works. Good luck. Notes: * It might be smart to add cooling to the extruder motor; mine got over 50c with the long bowden, keep it under 45c ideally, that goes for all the motors. * Keep the belts tight * A laptop power supply Around 19V will make it faster with the right cooling setup; just keep in mind the board will probably smoke with anything over 24v due to the power rating on the Mosfets and caps. * You may want to use 10mm or 12mm linear rods. I have found the 8mm rods have a little bit of bend when the effector is moving at high speeds. I plan to do this for future revisions, but as it stands, I have noticed decent performance and quality, and 10mm rods are 2X as expensive so it may not be worth the cost for you.
