MPMD Folded Magnetic Draft Shield

MPMD Folded Magnetic Draft Shield

Since the bed size limits me from printing a single piece part that fits between the towers, I decided to experiment and design a single print part that hinges. It's not perfect but it works. The photo shows a hinge that's loose and rough, indicating I'll need to refine my design for better tolerances between the movable sides. To achieve the desired support, I used supports touching the plate, which also helps with overhangs. This design is meant to attach to the bottom and/or top of the MPMD using 12mm neodymium magnets, holding a card or other material shield in place while enclosing the print area to protect it from drafts. However, due to its design, the part won't fit on the extruder side because the extruder protrudes too far. I'll need to increase the radius of the curve to accommodate it. When I tackle this project again, I'll focus on tightening the tolerances of the hinge. I've uploaded a slightly larger version that just clears the extruder motor, making it suitable for the extruder side as well as the other sides. This updated design extends out slightly further but includes tightened tolerances for the hinge. If your print isn't very clean, you might need to put extra effort into cutting the pieces apart. I've included a shot of the inside of the joint so you can better understand how the pieces need to be separated.
