MPF - Meshcube Lamp / Netzwürfel Lampe YouTube The mesh lampshade is not a new concept. I've seen various tutorials for different shapes and methods, but none of them were truly practical for me. This build-project was the first test for my multi-purpose-frame (MPF). The design is extremely simple, consisting of just two distinct parts used for the vertical (V) and horizontal (H) bars of the cubic frame (300 x 300 x 300 mm). The provided files contain either 1 or 4 of the necessary parts. The wave pattern at the outer edges serves as a fixed point for the cord. It's recommended to hang the frame rotatably, as shown in the video, to ensure easy access to all sides. I embedded the cord in wood glue overnight and wrapped it around the cube 20-25 times. In retrospect, extracting the frame might have been easier if I had covered the plastic parts with foil or tape. The shadow pattern throughout the room requires a dim illumination, such as a string of lights. Initially, I wanted to use only the cord cube as a lampshade (invisible frame effect). However, during the project, my wife suggested printing another frame using fluorescent PLA. This turned out to be much cooler, despite the material shining very weakly. It's not easy to capture this scene on video, but it's quite visible to the human eye and in photographs. The fluorescent PLA parts appear somewhat like glowing steel. The lamp is merely an example of the MPF's capabilities. I used the following settings: - Printer: Anycubic Kossel Linear Plus - Software: Cura - Material: PLA - 1.75 mm - Temperature (Extruder): 200 °C - Temperature (Bed): 60 °C - Layer Height: 0.2 mm - Perimeters: 2 - Infill Density: 20 % - Print Speed: 60 mm/s No support was needed. The parts required are as follows: 1. V-4x ⦁ 4 Parts - print time: 5 hours 25 minutes, weight: 63 g * Print settings: X 172.5 - Y 80 - Z 18.5 mm 2. V-1x ⦁ 1 Part - print time: 8 hours 40 minutes, weight: 16 g * Print settings: X 172.5 - Y 15 - Z 18.5 mm 3. H-4x ⦁ 4 Parts - print time: 5 hours 6 minutes, weight: 57 g * Print settings: X 168 - Y 85.34 - Z 15 mm 4. H-1x ⦁ 1 Part - print time: 16 hours 34 minutes, weight: 14 g * Print settings: X 168 - Y 16.34 - Z 15 mm Summary: * Print Time: 31 hours 14 minutes * PLA: 354 g
