MPF - Meshcube Lamp / Netzwürfel Lampe https://youtu.be/1CxZ0PVyVXw The mesh lampshade isn't a new idea. I've seen some tutorials for different shapes and methods, but none of them were really practical for me. This build-project was the first test for my multi-purpose-frame (MPF). The design is really simple, it includes just two different parts which are used for the vertical (V) and horizontal (H) bars of the cubic frame (300 x 300 x 300 mm). The provided files contain 1 or 4 of the needed parts. The wave pattern at the outer edges serves as fix points for the cord. It's recommended hanging the frame rotatable as shown in the video, to have access to all sites. I put the cord in wood glue overnight and wrapped it around the cube 20-25 times. In retrospect, the frame extraction might be easier, if I had covered the plastic parts with some foil or tape. The shadow-pattern around the room require a dim illumination, for example a light string. At the beginning, I wanted to use just the cord cube as lampshade (invisible frame effect). During the project, my wife had the idea to print another frame with fluorescent PLA. This turned out to look much cooler, although the material only shines very weakly. It's not easy to capture this scene on video, but it's pretty visible to the human eye and on photos. The fluorescent PLA parts look a bit like glowing steel. The lamp is just an example for the usage of the MPF. I'm thinking about building a printer enclosure in a future project.
