MPCNC Needle Cutter
thingiverse
This is a custom-made needle cutter designed specifically for an MPCNC Machine. Three millimeter holes are drilled into the face of this cutter for easy installation of four guide bearings. The brushless motor mounting pattern is compatible with standard 16/19 self-centering bolt patterns, making it straightforward to attach the motor securely. M3 screws and nuts are used to secure the flywheel to a precisely machined three point seventeen millimeter motor shaft. Three millimeter holes in the face of the flywheel provide a snug fit for the threads of M3 screws. Both the flywheel face and frame face feature a one millimeter extrusion, which helps space roller bearings evenly. The motor mount to face spacing allows for easy installation of 2212 brushless motors. This design is available in Sketchup's 3D warehouse, making it easy to import and modify as needed. I recently added two new variations to this design, both centered around the same motor and mounting pattern. One variation features additional guides at the top, while the other is shorter in length. These modifications are intended to reduce side slop caused by needle flex during operation. Both designs work well, but there's a delicate balance between wire length, rotation speed, and wire stiffness that needs to be fine-tuned for optimal results. For example, using .020 inch wire with the shorter design yields great results, while .025 inch wire works well with the taller design featuring extra guides. In addition, I've made an update to the bearing hole dimensions to work seamlessly with the needle holder from moebeast's needle cutter. As before, there's a fine balance to achieve when using this holder. Check out this video for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A50iS64hYAY I've also added a pen holder that attaches to the standard MPCNC Tool Mount, accommodating an ink pen or sharpie marker. This pen holder places markings in the same spot as the needle from the cutter. You can watch a video for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khfDCBjHmtU The shorter needle cutter is now featured prominently on this page, reflecting my preference for its design. There are holes in the base of this design to accommodate a wooden insulation board for the welding tip. Alternatively, the tip can screw directly into the printed needle cutter. Using .020 and .025 wire through a .035 welding tip produces minimal heat from friction, with the tip warming up to the touch but not reaching a temperature that's too hot to handle or melt the printed cutter. I've also added pen holder V2, which features holes on the side for securing pens or markers using tap or zip ties.
