MPCNC MK8Extruder Ringfan
thingiverse
A custom part cooling duct for 30mm fans has been tested during printing and with smoke, yielding moderate results but impressive evenness and minimal nozzle interference. The design has since been updated to accommodate 40mm fans and optimized airflow. The duct has undergone several iterations: an initial 40mm fan version was improved upon by introducing a B variant that incorporates a second duct positioned directly beneath the nozzle. A final 40mm variant features an enlarged opening at the base and an additional shroud harnessing hotend fan air to enhance print cooling. STEP and IGES files for modification have been added, allowing users to tailor the design according to their needs. To validate airflow efficiency, a simulation was conducted, which corroborated results obtained from smoke testing. The video demonstrating these findings can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/EhtRSBZZycE **Print Settings:** * Printer: MPCNC * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.2mm * Infill: 20% * Notes: + Printing without brim is recommended, as it allows for easier cleanup of the opening; however, if sufficient adhesion cannot be achieved, using a brim may be necessary. + A small gap below the fan does not affect print quality, making supports unnecessary. + Use a 0.3mm first layer to ensure flat placement on the print table. + Print the shroud with internal support at an 80° overhang angle for optimal results. **Post-Printing:** This custom cooling duct is designed to be secured using an M4 screw in conjunction with an Allteds MK8 mount. To simplify installation, a nut was omitted; however, users can adjust the duct's position in x, y, and z axes by incorporating a slot and additional nut.
