MPCNC Compliant Scriber Mount
thingiverse
This is based on Allted's compliant mount for a drag knife. Same idea but made more rigid in XY to handle the chatter that otherwise happens when scribing, and also resized to hold a (maybe standard) 1/8" diameter tungsten carbide scriber tip (e.g.: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0789HX8LC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1). The clamp is sized for 4-40 x 1/2" bolts and nuts. In use zero against the surface to be scribed, then program z depth into the part. For the stainless etching in the linked video I set a depth of 1mm into the part. I got a reasonable but slightly less visible line at 0.5 mm, and started getting some chatter at 2 mm. I'm using Inkscape and GCodePlot to generate the GCode: https://inkscape.org/~arpruss/%E2%98%85gcodeplot
