MPCNC Burly Drag Chain System
thingiverse
This is an update to my previous MPCNC Drag Chain system, specifically tailored for the Burly build. As before, this upgrade streamlines the wiring for the MPCNC while providing easier connection options for lasers, spindles, and other accessories. You can find the original version and a detailed explanation at: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2743770. There are two versions of this build, and I'm choosing to post them both here. 1. If you plan to print the Burly parts, I recommend printing the "New XYZ" part from this Thing's directory. The "AttachedBracket" attaches directly to the side of the New XYZ using press-in or melt-in inserts. 2. If your machine is already built and working, there is a new Burly version that clamps on the XY part. This approach is straightforward to add and can be easily retrofitted to an existing machine. The screw is a 6-32, approximately 2.5 inches long, with a trapped Nylox nut. In a moment of clarity, I also extended the hole for the screw through to the other side of the nut so that you don't have to cut it to exact dimensions. You will need to clear the part with a 9/64 drill, however (or at least I did when printing with PLA). In addition, I've updated the Servo Brackets to accommodate 1-inch angle aluminum extrusion instead of the previous 3/4-inch version. I've also removed the inserts for the extrusion to make cutting it less precise than before. Note that there is a mirrored version of the bracket because there are recesses in each bracket to fit better against the servos and rollers at each end. The attachment point for the drag chain can use either a nut and bolt as before or plastic inserts. I used these melt-in inserts from Mcmaster-Carr for the drag chain attachment and bracket attachments: https://www.mcmaster.com/92395a113. I've also been told that this melt-in option works well: https://www.mcmaster.com/94459a290. I have printed the clamp-on bracket in PLA and ABS with good results. ABS is a bit more forgiving when mounting. If you use the attached bracket, you will need to print the New XYZ in PLA, but the actual bracket can be any material (PLA, PETG, ABS).
